Beginning August 15, 2025, Vietnam will allow nationals from 12 additional countries to enter visa-free for up to 45 days. Alongside this, a new guideline introduces special visa exemptions for scholars, professionals, investors, and cultural figures whose contributions align with Vietnam’s strategic priorities.
12 European Nations with Visa-Free Entry
Travelers from the following countries will benefit from Vietnam’s updated visa-free policy:
- Switzerland
- Slovenia
- Slovakia
- Romania
- Poland
- Luxembourg
- Hungary
- The Netherlands
- The Czech Republic
- Croatia
- Bulgaria
- Belgium
From August 15, 2025, visitors from these nations can stay in Vietnam visa-free for 45 days. This rule applies regardless of passport type and is part of Vietnam’s broader tourism growth strategy, valid until August 14, 2028.
Some travelers, such as those from Poland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, may already have visa-free access under Resolution No. 11/NQ-CP (January 2025), but that law will be replaced by the new regulation.
Special Visa Waivers for High-Value Visitors
On the same date, Vietnam enacted Decree No. 221/2025/ND-CP, creating a new category of visa waivers not intended for mass tourism. These waivers apply to individuals whose presence supports Vietnam’s economic, cultural, or diplomatic goals.
Eligible categories include:
- Visitors personally invited by Vietnam’s top leaders, such as the President or Prime Minister
- Senior officials from foreign governments or international organizations
- Professionals, scientists, and technology experts
- Major investors and global business executives
- Renowned artists, athletes, and cultural figures
- Honorary consuls of Vietnam
- Experts requested by leading universities, research institutes, or Vietnamese firms
In certain cases, the Ministry of Public Security may extend visa-free entry to individuals outside this list if deemed strategically beneficial.
